India says it has handed Pakistan evidence that allegedly links Pakistani militant groups to attacks in India. The announcement follows the first peace talks between the two neighbors since the Mumbai train bombings in July.

Indian Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon said India was withholding information on the Mumbai attacks for procedural reasons as no charge sheets had been yet filed in the case.

At a separate briefing, Pakistani Foreign Secretary Riaz Mohammed Khan said the newly constituted anti-terror mechanism would examine the evidence given by India. Khan said both sides had agreed to set up a commission to exchange information on terror threats.

Riaz Mohammad Khan, Pakistani foreign secretary said, “The channel which has been established, the mechanism, and they would further examine it. The material does not relate to the Mumbai blasts as I could see but it relates to some other incidents and there are indications of certain linkages between the banned groups in India and the banned groups in Pakistan. We will look at that and examine it.”

The comments followed the first peace talks since the Mumbai train bombings. During the talks, India and Pakistan also agreed on measures to combat terrorism and a deal outlining safeguards to prevent an accidental nuclear conflict in South Asia.
