Special Report: Iraq in TransitionDespite the arrival of a surge of US troops in Iraq, the US commander in the country says he does not expect significant improvements until at least summer this year.
It's the first time a senior US officer has put a time-frame around the new security plan. General George Casey also said the plan would mean greater responsibility for Iraqi troops.

General George Casey, US commander in Iraq, said, "As with any plan, there are no guarantees of success, and it's not going to happen overnight, but with sustained political support and the concentrated efforts on all sides I believe that this plan can work. The Iraqi security forces over 2007 will get to a point were they work increasingly take responsibility for their own security and as they do that we will more and more work on to a supporting role and then to take more and more in the lead. So that process is happening at the same time as working harder to bring security to Baghdad."
