China takes new measures to enhance product quality, food safety

At a meeting with a US delegation on Tuesday, Li Changjiang admitted that some Chinese products do have quality problems. But overall, he said, they are safe.

US delegation members say for some American consumers, concerns over the safety of Chinese products are temporary. They think confidence will be restored when consumers see China's efforts in tackling the problem.

The US delegation's visit came after a letter was sent by the US National Retail Federation to the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee. The letter stated if the US pursues trade protectionism against China, several million jobs in the country's retail and manufacturing industries might be lost.
