It's a question many Americans are asking -- Six years after the worst terror attacks on US soil is the country safer in 2007? On Monday, the Senate Homeland Security Committee called in the country's top counter-terrorism officials for an answer.
US homeland security secretary, Michael Chertoff said, "Over the last six years, we have made some tremendous strides in making this country safer. And in answer to the question I often get asked, it is clear to me that we are much safer than we were prior to September 11th, 2001."
Chertoff also says America has more work to do because the enemy is not standing still. He says terrorists are constantly revising their tactics and adapting their strategy and capabilities. Chertoff says if America becomes complacent, it will weaken its ability to protect itself.
