Turkey's Foreign Minister Ali Babacan has met with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa in Cairo. This comes as Turkey tries to explain to its Arab neighbors its parliament's decision to approve possible military operations into northern Iraq to target Kurdistan Workers' Party rebels.
Moussa hopes contacts between the two countries' officials will help end the current tension. The Arab League chief has stressed the league is firmly against a terrorist attack. Babacan has reiterated his country's resolve to fight terrorism, noting Turkey has long been defending Iraq's unity and sovereignty.
Iraq and the US have urged that military action be restrained, but Babacan regrets the failure of the US and Iraqi governments to fulfill their promise to uproot terrorists from Iraq.
