The new appointed head of ARATS Chen Yunlin, and Chairman of SEF Chiang Pin-kung held a landmark meeting in June 2008 in Beijing. The two sides signed agreements on the launch of the weekend cross-strait charter flights and the admission of more Chinese mainland tourists to Taiwan.
Although ARATS and SEF differ on the understanding of the political meaning of the one-China policy during their discussions of the 1992 consensus, SEF clearly advocates that "both sides of the Straits adhere to the one-china principle" and "strive to seek for national reunification". With more cooperation and exchanges between the compatriots of Chinese mainland and Taiwan, peaceful development of cross-strait ties is expected to be achieved.
