UN calls for peace in DR Congo

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called for an immediate ceasefire in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He has also requested an additional three-thousand peacekeepers be sent to the region.
He says the country needs peace to help the 250-thousand persons displaced from their homes by fighting in rebel-held areas.
Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General, said, "I have requested on an urgent basis to the Security Council for additional resources and manpower. That's somewhere around, a little more than three-thousand soldiers. I hope the Security Council will consider this positively and favorably as soon as possible."
