The World Food Program estimates that only last week more than 10-thousand people were displaced. It has established an airlift from nearby Uganda to carry goods to those trapped inside Kivu.
At least 70-thousand people are believed to be in need of assistance.
The area is almost completely cut off by insecurity along the few existing roads, most of which are impassable as a result of heavy seasonal rains.
