Madagascar´s president: Still in charge

Madagascar's president, Marc Ravalomanana, says he is still in charge. His comments come hours after an opposition leader told thousands of anti-government protesters he had taken over.

In a statement read on a private television station, Ravalomanana urged all government employees and workers to continue their work rather than accept any disturbance by the opposition.

He promised he would respect the constitution and the law in the country as he has done since January 2007.

Earlier Saturday evening, Ravalomanana presided over a government meeting at which he asked the ministry of justice and the high constitutional court to perform their duty.
