Chancellor Angela Merkel has visited German troops stationed in the northern Afghan province of Kunduz.
Accompanied by Defense Minister Franz-Josef Jung, this was Merkel's second visit to the country. But, shortly after she left, attackers hurled rockets towards the German military camp.

No one was injured. Merkel also visited civilian projects though no political meetings in Kabul were planned.
Germany has about 3,800 troops in Afghanistan with a parliamentary mandate to send 4,500 as part of a NATO mission.
The mission is unpopular among voters and the Chancellor is reluctant to increase the number of German combat troops.
