An airline statement says the hijacker boarded the plane carrying 182 people late Sunday as it was preparing to leave for Halifax, Canada. The statement says all the passengers have been released from the Boeing 737 without being harmed.
US media reported the gunman is holding five crew members hostage on the plane. Jamaica's Information minister told the network that two crew members were released, and that no one has been injured. The airline says a full security operation is under way.
