Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh voted along with his wife, Gursharan Kaur.
Singh expressed the hope his Congress will emerge victorious in these elections.
Indian PM Manmohan Singh said, "Congress will be victorious in Assam, with thumping majority. There will be a central government led by the Congress party."
Preliminary polls show the main national parties may struggle to form a stable coalition.
