A local official said elders and an extremist Islamic group helped secure the release, and added no ransom was paid. MSF confirmed the release.

Dag Hornevedt, Interim Head of Mission for Somalia, MSF, said, "MSF is incredibly relieved that the two colleagues are safe and in good health. Their families have been informed and are overjoyed. MSF is now working on getting the two reunited with their relatives and friends as quickly as possible, and giving them all the support they may need for dealing with their experience."
