US warns of sanctions against Sudan

The US President has warned of tough measures against Sudan, if Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir does not take quick and concrete steps to stop the bloodshed in Darfur.

On Wednesday, George W. Bush said the Sudanese government must allow UN support troops into the country as part of a full UN-African Union peacekeeping force.

He also warned Sudan against lending support to militias and stopping humanitarian aid from reaching Darfur.

Bush says the US could tighten economic sanctions on Sudan, and bar certain companies from access to the US financial system.
