China has welcomed a deal between Sudan, the United Nations and the African Union.
This will initiate a second phase of a UN support plan for the AU mission in Darfur. While calling for its implementation, China has made clear that it's too early to talk about sanctions against Sudan.
Liu Jianchao, spokesman Chinese Foreign Ministry, said, "We believe that now we should adopt more constructive measures to ensure that consensus on the Darfur issue reached by relevant parties will be practically implemented. Therefore we believe that this is not the time to discuss sanctions against Sudan. "
