The latest round of China-US strategic economic dialogues is set to take place in Beijing on Wednesday. The two countries are now each other's second biggest trading partner and both sides are aiming to enhance consensus in several areas.

Like the previous two dialogues, this round will be chaired by Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Yi and US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.

Paulson heads the US delegation for the talks and arrived in Beijing on Monday night. The discussions also involve several other senior US officials in commerce, trade and energy.

The officials will focus on the opportunities and challenges of economic globalization.

Both sides aim to further consensus in areas including energy, environmental protection, investment and a balanced economic growth.

Chinese trade officials say China and the US enjoy many opportunities for cooperation in those sectors.

US officials, including the Secretary of Commerce, Carlos Gutierrez, say they're looking forward to the strategic economic dialogue.

US Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez said, "China and the US represent almost forty per cent of the world's economic growth. Through S-E-D, we talk about strategies to continue to grow together, and continue to help each other."

Gutierrez says the dialogues have enhanced exchanges between the two governments.

And the results achieved by the talks are helpful to Sino-US economic growth and that of the world at large.
