US, DPRK envoys arrive in Beijing for nuclear talks

Top nuclear envoys from the US and the DPRK have arrived in Beijing. They are scheduled for a series of consultations on the disablement of the DPRK's nuclear facilities.

DPRK Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kim Gye Gwan, arrived in Beijing in the morning followed by U.S. envoy Christopher Hill.
Hill is on a round of consultations in the region, during which he will also visit the Republic of Korea and Japan.
Hill says during his stay in Beijing, he will discuss plans for disabling the DPRK'S nuclear facilities and the measures the US will take. He says the parties have a lot of work to do before the end of the year.

Hill will fly to Seoul on Thursday and Tokyo on Friday.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Liu Jianchao, has confirmed that Chinese foreign ministry officials will meet Hill and Kim.
Liu Jianchao said, "So far, the joint statement of six-party talks on the Korean Peninsular nuclear issue has been advancing smoothly. We hope all sides can continue working together to further implementing the agreement."
A joint document on the second phase of the sixth round of the talks was agreed on October third. In the document, the DPRK agreed to disable all its existing nuclear facilities this year.. and provide a full and correct declaration of all its nuclear programs by the end of 2007.
